UIA International Architecture Forum 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan
From 7-9 June 2019, the International Architecture Forum “Mass Tourism in Historic Cities” organized for the first time in Baku by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan (UAA), will be held at the Heydar Aliyev Center .

The purpose of the Forum is to:
  • study how to develop tourism in a sustainable manner;
  • analyze existing and potential public policies for heritage preservation;
  • discuss the role of the architect in managing mass tourism in historic places;
  • consider the architecture of today as a heritage of tomorrow, make a list of modern architecture for the status of UNESCO World Heritage;
  • create a set of guidelines for sustainable tourism to help cities develop effective policies;
  • create a network of historic cities affected by mass tourism.

With the advent of low-cost travel, the tourism industry is experiencing an unprecedented boom. As a result, mass tourism is increasingly characterized as annoying, even destructive, often leading to demographic shifts, dissatisfaction of the local population, rising prices, dispersal of small business, damage to heritage and loss of cultural identity. In this regard, this forum is designed to solve these problems, and discuss how architects and stakeholders can help create greater harmony between historical cities and tourists. The forum is open to both participants in developed and new historical tourist destinations.

UAA invites everyone to participate.
