UIA World Congress in Barcelona 2026 – HKIA Parallel Session – HK City in Transition

As global urbanization accelerates, the architectural choices we sculpt today will echo across generations. To weave a sustainable urban fabric fulfilling UN SDG goals, the blueprint lies in excavating the principles of enduring urban typologies—their compact forms, climate-responsive designs, and tightly knit social tapestries into modern practice.

Hong Kong emerges as a profound urban laboratory. Housing 7.4 million residents within a topography that is three-quarters pristine nature, the city is an intricate spatial choreography—a vibrant collision of multi-layered transit, historic tenements, and gleaming towers.

Today, Hong Kong is actively reorienting its urban canvas. We harness our defining compactness not as a constraint, but as a powerful catalyst to sculpt a resilient, decarbonized, and equitable future.
