Synopsis:
Proximity, which in a simplified way is communicated as '15-minute cities' or 'new neighbourhoods', has a material and immaterial, physical and relational, communication and emotion dimension. A proximity criterion contributes to the rebalancing of cities and territories, guaranteeing every citizen the right to equal opportunities, regardless of geographical location, gender or income.
An urban and territorial policy that promotes sustainability, inclusiveness and aesthetics, as proposed by the Next Generation EU and the NewEuropean Bauhaus project, cannot but have proximity as a core value.
Saverio Mecca, has been Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and then of Department of Architecture of University of Florence. He works in the academic research in the field of architectural heritage and sustainable development project and risk management.
