Hong Kong at the 14th Venice International Architecture Exhibition - Showcase of Hong Kong’s Architectural Excellence

【Hong Kong, 6 March 2014】The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) jointly organize the exhibition titled “Fundamentally Hong Kong? —— DELTA FOUR 1984 - 2044 ” (建基香港 - 三角四方 1984 －2044)- to participate in the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia (Venice Architecture Biennale) under the sponsorship by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

The Organizers are pleased to announce that Mr Alvin Yip, Dr Doreen Liu and LWK & Partners have been appointed curators of the Hong Kong Exhibition following a public call for proposals. The curators have long experience in curating similar exhibition including the debut of Hong Kong Exhibition in Venice Architecture Biennale in 2006 and organizing the Hong Kong part of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (UABB) 2011 and 2013. In response to Rem Koolhaas’ overall theme of “Fundamentals: Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014”, the Curatorial Team has developed concepts for the exhibition and is in the course of recruiting exhibitor proposals.

Interested parties should submit their exhibitor proposals to the Organizers and Curatorial Team on or before 10 March 2014 12noon (Hong Kong Time). For more details of submission of exhibitor proposals, please visit the HKIA Website at http://www.hkia.net

Ms. Ada FUNG, President of HKIA said, “The Hong Kong Pavilion which was co-organized by the HKIA and ADC received widespread attention and acclaim internationally. This new Curatorial Team adopted the previous practice to open call for exhibitors in order to embody the idea of public engagement. We call upon all enthusiastic architects, urban designers and artists in Hong Kong to come forward and contribute towards this meaningful event.”

The ADC will provide full support to this exhibition and work closely with the curatorial team in the coming months.” said Mr Chow Yung Ping, Chief Executive of the ADC.

This is the third time for CreateHK of the HKSAR Government to sponsor the Hong Kong exhibition at Venice Architecture Biennale, with a view to promoting local architecture sector, which is one of the creative industries in Hong Kong.
