CPD Seminar: Hydrogen Economy, ESG, Climate Resilience & Carbon Reduction for Buildings - the Town Gas Experience & Initiatives

Hong Kong will strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 as stated in Climate Action Plan 2050 issued in Oct, 2021. Apart from the net zero energy generation, energy saving and green buildings are targeting to reduce electricity consumption of commercial buildings by 30-40% and residential buildings by 20 -30% by 2050 and achieving half of these targets by 2035. Towngas has been a pioneer in spearheading hydrogen economy, ESG, climate resilience & carbon reduction for buildings.

Victor Kwong will share about future hydrogen economy, hydrogen applications in HK and its importance toward carbon neutrality. He will also outline Towngas’ experience on ESG in buildings including climate resilience design (TCFD), carbon reduction and energy saving practices in buildings, etc. Victor will also share the experience on installations of renewable energy systems such as solar panels, solar desiccant system, and BEAM Plus in Towngas Headquarters. Victor will also share their latest research initiatives on carbon capture and utilization on green concreting, etc., waste management and innovative safety practices.

Towngas received Grand Award for HKMA Sustainability Award, BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Award, ranked first in Business School of CUHK of three Sustainability Indexes, etc. in 2021.  Furthermore, the Headquarter Building achieved BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0 Final Platinum - the highest score in Energy Use Aspect.

Mr Victor Kwong is General Manager - Corporate Sustainability and Chairman, Environmental Working Committee of the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited. He has also been Director of Business Environment Council, past President of The Hong Kong Federation of Occupational Safety and Health Associations, etc.

Towngas operates over 500 projects in Hong Kong and mainland China. These include piped city-gas projects, upstream and midstream developments, water supply and urban waste utilisation projects, natural gas filling stations, as well as new energy exploration and utilisation ventures.

Mr Kwong has more than 39 years of experience in the areas of corporate sustainability, environmental protection, building energy saving, occupational health and safety, fire protection, crisis management and security protection, etc.  He coordinates the corporation’s efforts to improve sustainability and safety performance through effective risk management system, energy saving programs, carbon reduction, climate change risk reduction, etc.
