Abstract:
An experiential turn has been occurring in the landscape realm, since zooming into the multisensory experiences lays a solid foundation for understanding how people spatially perceive, memorize, behave and learn. Online reviews offer spontaneous, real-life individual narratives on social media and review sites with rich emotional and sensory details. Mining these reviews allows for a more nuanced understanding of individualized multisensory experiences, preserving the uniqueness of personal interactions with landscapes. This lecture reports an innovative approach to mapping multisensory experiences from online reviews and foregrounds the enormous promise of a large language model in landscape research.

About the Speaker:
Prof. SU Shiliang is a full professor of Cartography and GIScience at Wuhan University. He leads the Urban Computing and Visualization Lab that devoted to developing new theories and methodologies for understanding Chinese urban systems. His research interests include human observation data mining, urban system modelling and social scene visualization. His research has been widely applied to the spatial planning, geographical census and atlas compilation of over 20 megacities in China. He has successively sat on the Clarivate Global Highly Cited Scholars and Elsevier Chinese Highly Cited Scholars listings.
