[PGBC Event] PGBC Sharing Talk - Exploring the Feasibility of Mass Engineered Timber Construction in Hong Kong
Date: 18 December 2025

Organised by PGBC, this sharing talk seeks to explore the feasibility of MET construction in Hong Kong, more comprehensively from various perspectives where statutory approval, MET product supplies, local climate, and potential market are among the major factors. Based on findings from a thesis research, the speaker will also share her experience of attempting to initiate a MET pilot project in 2023 in Hong Kong. Learning from experience, this is intending to help accumulate knowledge within the industry, such that more MET pilot projects could be initiated with positive outlook in the near future.

Mass engineered timber (MET) construction is growing rapidly in many countries, not only in Europe, North America and Australia, but Asian countries like Singapore and Japan are also seen constructing from small pilot projects to multi-storey MET buildings. However, except a few small existing timber structures in glulam, currently there is not yet a project in Hong Kong using the more innovative MET products like CLT.
