Located in Yantai, the newly completed Terminal 2 is a gateway inspired by nature. The architectural form draws inspiration
from the nearby Kunyu Mountain and Yantai’s coastal landscape to create a dynamic silhouette over the departure hall. A
sweeping roofline and dynamic skylights evoke the motion of waves and mountain ridges, guiding passengers through the
terminal with natural light. The E-shaped layout enhances operational efficiency and passenger flow, while minimising
excavation by responding to the site’s natural contours.
Inside, the finishes and spatial composition reflect the textures and tones of Yantai’s seascape, creating a calm and
cohesive environment. A central landscaped retail atrium, crowned by a glazed diagrid dome, links domestic and
international zones and brings daylight deep into the terminal.
Terminal 2 supports flexible operations with swing gates and introduces rail connectivity for the first time, playing a vital role
in expanding the airport’s overall capacity.
