The Hong Kong East Coast Boardwalk Precinct reactivates 2.2km of neglected space beneath the Island Eastern Corridor into a multi-functional public realm. Delivered in two phases, Phase I (North Point) transforms bridge infrastructure into a 24/7 cultural corridor featuring rotating art installations and performance zones. Phase II (Quarry Bay) creates an all-weather sports and leisure destination with skate parks, fitness areas, and waterfront lounges. The design leverages the existing highway canopy for climate protection while integrating smart technologies like AR navigation and adaptive lighting. By connecting 3 MTR stations and 2 water taxi terminals, it establishes a seamless slow-mobility network. Modular commercial pods support local entrepreneurs through pop-up markets, converting infrastructural voids into community assets. This project sets a global benchmark for high-density urban regeneration through infrastructure reuse.
