Benevolence House is a modern addition of a teaching block and school hall for the historic St. Stephen's College. The Hall block hovers above and responds to the upper central campus grid while the four-storey teaching block responds to the sports-field alignment below. At the pivot is an iconic bell tower in the same beige granite echoing the historic block, anchoring the newly formed green quad and featuring the Outdoor Auditorium and Forum.
The new building houses a double-volume Blackbox Theatre, a Student Activity Centre, a Multi-function Room, classrooms and a Gym, while the 1,100-pax School Hall features 11m headroom with dramatic sea view.
Nodal spaces and covered links such as open staircases, platforms and link bridge are introduced across the different levels. While connectivity within the campus is enhanced, the sequence of spaces and the various means of interweaved routes create interesting forms of encounter and visual linkage.
