“Future-proof” showcases the enduring power of architecture by highlighting the design features of an architectural masterpiece, “The Henderson” designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
The exhibit, part of the “Beyond Territories—Made. Make. Making” exhibition, hosted by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects in 2022 to celebrate the city’s achievements in urbanism and sustainable development, was inspired by the Cabinet of Curiosity: a series of collectibles hidden in drawers to entice visitors to discover and explore. It comprises four scaled models: a site model, a footbridge connection model, a series of form study models, and a complete building model, are placed in four cylinders. Infographics and photographs of the project are mounted in drawers at the lower part of the cylinders, offering layers of information to support visitors’ interactions. Unlike conventional architectural exhibits, the installation encourages visitor engagement and interaction to generate a sense of discovery and surprise.
