Metamorphosing Built Sustainability: An Architectural Advancing Net Zero Intervention at the Hong Kong Harbour front.
In the vibrant landscape of Hong Kong, a remarkable transformation has unfolded, where a humble public restroom has evolved into a dynamic urban hub. This design features a kid-friendly toilet, inclusive unisex facilities, water bottle fillers, and resting benches, catering to the outdoor-oriented lifestyles of Hong Kong's citizens.
Understanding the aspirations of users and the subtropical climate, the project incorporates passive design elements like an internal vegetated courtyard for cross-ventilation and semi-open facade for ample daylight. Echoing the lush greenery of Harborfront Park, the vibrant color palette contrasts with the urban skyline, creating a welcoming landmark for visitors. Local low-carbon materials and recycled waste are utilized, showcasing Hong Kong’s innovative eco-friendly spirit through collaborations with local universities and research institutes.
