Former Lau Fau Shan Police Station is a 3-storey reinforced concrete building with floor area of about 1,000 sqm. It was built in 1963 on a hill top overlooking the local villages and the sea border, and was decommissioned in 2002 and assessed as a Grade III historic building in 2014.
Under a government’s partnership scheme, it was opted to be revitalized into a Guide Dogs Academy, where the existing spaces are reused as follow:
- Barracks and roofs are modified for dogs training use;
- Quarters are altered for guide dog users’ live-in training and whelping;
- Mess & recreation room is refurbished into multifunction cum AAI therapy room;
- Main utilities areas are provided on LG/F as existing, with a new vet room introduced;
- Report room is revamped into a visitor centre that connects to a cell room and an armoury, both are restored for interpretation.
