Brief details of the talk
The last edition of the Standard Form of Building Contracts—covering both Quantities and Non-Quantities—and its corresponding Sub-Contract and Supply Contract were published in 2005 and 2006, with a revised edition released in 2023. Since the last update, the construction industry has evolved significantly, shaped by new practices and statutory regulations. Key developments include the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the enacted Security of Payment Ordinance (Cap. 652). These changes underscore the necessity for a comprehensive review and update of the standard forms, which was published in late 2025.
A noteworthy aspect of the updated Standard Form of Building Contracts (New SFBC) is the consolidation of the separate “With Quantities” and “Without Quantities” versions into a single contract option.
In this CPD event organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), Hong Kong Institute of Construction Management (HKICM), and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), representatives from Pinsent Masons will present an overview of the key features of the New SFBC, with a particular focus on the Particular Conditions of Contract related to the Security of Payment Ordinance.
We invite all members seeking deeper insights and a comprehensive understanding directly from the drafters of the New SFBC to register for this informative CPD event.
