Part 1: Opening the Ears of the Architects (CPD: 1.5 Hour)

• Reference project: Elbphilharmonie: The Concert — How principal acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota created the concert hall’s acoustics using a 1:10 scale model of the Elbphilharmonie’s main auditorium. Before a single brick was laid, Toyota and his team employed specialized materials that accurately replicated the acoustic absorption and reflection characteristics of the full-scale building materials at the higher frequencies corresponding to the model’s scale.
