CPD Seminar: Hong Kong Architects' China Tales II
Date: 20 May 2025

[Event details]

We have all witnessed the incredible growth and development of Mainland China, both economically and technologically, since the 1980s. From a relatively humble beginning as the world's factory for low-end goods, it has transformed into an innovation hub for tech gadgets, drones, electronic vehicles, and artificial intelligence.

Architects, like other professionals, have benefited from this boom over the last few decades. Many local architectural practices, both large and small, have chosen to invest in and work within this massive market.

This series, titled「香港建築師北漂故事」aims to record the stories shared by architects of different generations and backgrounds. It explores what it was like, what they have witnessed, how things used to be, and their personal stories that have never been told.

The second in this series features two distinguished architects, again from very different backgrounds: one from a successful local design studio with an excellent track record of projects in China, and the other from a world renowned design firm with offices worldwide.

This series is not about architectural projects, design theories, academic research, or construction technologies. Rather, it focuses on our friends and fellow architects who spend much of their lives away from home, working and wandering in various cities, and at times, villages of China.
