Organised by ARCASIA Committee under Board of External Affairs. The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) in collaboration with The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) and Architects Association of Macau (AAM) is organizing the fourth design charrette in July 2025.
This year, with the support of Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) and the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKREP), the event will focus on the theme “Architecture Traces”.
The Design Charrette will feature educational sharing session and workshop aimed at deepening students' understanding of architecture. The focus of this year will be on heritage architecture, promoting green practices, and encouraging the development of sustainable communities.
We are now targeting to recruit 20 volunteers for the Design Charrette. HKIA members are cordially invited to express their interest in becoming a volunteer and provide guidance and on-site support to secondary school students (F.4-6) participating in the design workshop. In case overwhelming applications are received, volunteers will be chosen by random draws. The Design Charrette will be held in 2 parts: (1) Sharing and tour within HKREP Education Hub in Hong Kong (2) Design Workshop in Macau
(1) Sharing and tour within HKREP Education Hub in Hong Kong
Date: 5 July 2025 (Saturday)
Time: 1-7pm (2 sessions)
Venue: Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Edu Hug, 7 Cox’s Road, Jordan, Kowloon
Target Audience: Local Secondary School Students (F4-6)
(2) Design Workshop in Macau
Date: 19-20 July 2025 (Saturday - Sunday)
Venue: University of Saint Joseph, Macau
Target Audience: Local Secondary School Students (F4-6)
- The first part of Design Charrette, we will focus on education and sharing on World Heritage Site in Macau. We invited architects to share their experiences and insights on Heritage conservation experience, sustainability design and its impact on the society, showcase successful Heritage conservation architecture projects during the tour. Allowing students to engage in discussions about their interests in architecture and Heritage buildings.
- The second part of Design Charrette in Macau, will be an interactive workshop designed to introduce secondary students to the principles and practices of architects, and encouraging students to think critically and apply design principles in their project. By fostering creativity and awareness, the workshop could inspire the next generation of architects to prioritize Heritage buildings conservation in their future careers.
