(Hong Kong, 8 December 2025) The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to our current President, Ar. Julia Lau, on her successful election as a Member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in the 2025 General Election for the Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape Functional Constituency, with the support of 2,157 votes.
This election result carries significant meaning, marking the return of an architect to represent the constituency in the Legislative Council since Prof. Patrick Lau served during the third (2004–2007) and fourth (2008–2011) terms, reaffirming the vital role and influence of the architectural profession in shaping Hong Kong’s public policies.
The voter turnout for this election reached 54.13%, reflecting the strong engagement of the industry. Ar. Lau received broad support from professionals across architecture, surveying, urban planning, and landscape design, demonstrating a spirit of cross-disciplinary collaboration and shared vision. This outcome underscores the collective commitment of these professions to advancing sustainable development and public policy in Hong Kong.
Ar. Lau has long been dedicated to professional advancement, actively promoting interdisciplinary cooperation. Her outstanding leadership and foresight have earned widespread recognition within the industry. HKIA firmly believes that she will leverage her expertise in the Legislative Council to advocate for greater support and resources for the architectural and related sectors, driving the high-quality development of Hong Kong’s built environment.
The Institute will offer our full support as she undertakes this significant public duty. We will maintain close collaboration with Ar.
