Cyberattack on the HKIA/ARB Computer System
(Hong Kong, 3 July 2024) The HKIA/ARB Secretariat identified a malicious ransomware attack against its computer system yesterday (2 July 2024). The attack has resulted in disruption to website and online services.
After consulting a forensic expert, the Secretariat has conducted a comprehensive investigation of its computer system, and taken immediate action to strengthen the security measures. The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force, and also the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data considering that a personal data breach might be involved.
The Secretariat has informed all affected parties, and urges the public to exercise heightened caution and do not open or click on suspicious links, emails or messages. The Secretariat will announce further development immediately via emails.
HKIA/ARB strongly condemns all forms of cybercrime. The Secretariat will continue to fully support the investigative efforts of the Hong Kong Police Force to bring the culprits to justice, in order to enforce cybersecurity and safeguard the public interests. HKIA/ARB expresses our sincere apologies for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused.
