The Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point passenger terminal building is the seventh cross-boundary control point in Hong Kong and a key piece of infrastructure for the government’s Northern Metropolis vision. The building blends in with its rural context through its low-lying silhouette, while its white curtain walls and vertical sun-shading fins create a clean, modern outlook and mirror the adjacent Shenzhen Liantang urbanised district.
The terminal has numerous green design elements, including black water recycling, insulated low-e glass unit, green roofs, and more. It minimises impacts on its rural surroundings – it is a multi-level building with a transport interchange, car park, vehicle drop-off and pick-up, and clearance and passenger border crossing facilities.
The project creates improvements for the community, with a public transport interchange and car parking facilities accessible to nearby villagers through a subway link. A police base and fire service station also serve travellers and nearby residents.
