Integral is an expansive, state-of-the-art spinning and garment manufacturing facility located in Guilin China, developed on rehabilitated wetlands that were once damaged by an old brick factory. Integral's "eco-industrial park" design intricately weaves architectural elements into the restored natural landscape, mirroring the region's interplay of water and hills, reflections, layers, colours, and textures. Drawing on local cultural and material influences, the project sets a benchmark for green architecture in terms of its prioritisation of healthy communities, smart manufacturing, ecological restoration, sustainable development, and a goal of zero carbon emissions.
Integral also has an experience and learning centre, a multifunctional hub for eco-tourism, exhibition and learning that depicts how sustainable manufacturing and building practices evolved; and an ecological park with a botanical garden that cultivates natural dye crops. This truly pioneering sustainable design project epitomises the seamless integration of humanity, technology and ecology.
